Hi just want to check - when installing a new bushing on the steering column on a 92 turbo cab (the little top hat plastic part) the lock ring that goes on top - which way does it go on ? It has like a smooth flatter side then the other side the protrusions come out a bit A I assumed it goes on with the smooth surface facing up - is that correct ? Can someone confirm ? Thanks

The Saab electronic parts catalog (EPC)...

for that year shows the flanged side of the inner bearing bushing on the bottom where it rests on a washer.

Bushing Availability

It seems like you managed to get it all back together the correct way. The bushing fits with the flat away from the steering wheel and the lock ring goes on with the tabs toward the wheel. My busing is bad too but I can't find a replacement here in the US. Where did you get your parts, and if you don't mind me asking, what did they cost?

I appreciate any information you have on where to get the bushing. The lock ring is readily available but the bushing is hard to track down.Thanks.

Hi Jim Maria - I actually had the lock ring on upside down - everything is back together now but I guess it may slip up again eventually so I’ll just have to do the job again - getting pretty used to it now but twice ive done it and had the lock ring on wrong !! The bushing I found on eBay and also schwedenteile.de but there doesn’t seem to be any around right now - all out of stock. I do have two I think so let me have a look if you get stuck I can always sell you one of mine - I think I paid £25 with shipping from the states when I bought it - but I guess most of that is shipping. Just bought 3 lock rings from eurosaabparts - the part was 3 dollars shipping was 50 dollars ! There’s someone on eBay selling the lock ring for 100 dollars plus shipping right now - seems sellers are catching on these parts are hard to find. Do you know where I can find the bearing that the bushing goes into ? Can’t find it anywhere !

Steering Bearing

troy1974, thanks for the info. Looks like I can get one from Skandix. They have the bearing you need.

I'm not able to post links but the part number is 1031057 and it's at Skandix.de

Thanks for the offer of your spare. I'll get back to you if I get desperate.

Glad to help out troy1974. I contacted Murry101 about the 3-D printed bushing. He said he would send me one to try out. I'll let everyone know how it works out.

I saw that one listed but there is no way to order it. I could be being a fool but I can't find the Buy It Now button on the page. I would have bought it on Saturday if I could have figured it out.

Thanks for the heads up anyway.

I contacted the seller on eBay. They are out of stock also and do not have any expectation of getting more.

I noticed they were out of stock after I saw your comment. I dropped two bushings in the mail to you today. You should see them soon.;ol;

I removed my steering wheel today and realized the bushing in my car is fine, but the bearing is worn out. Not sure what I'm going to do yet.

Sorry Murry. It sounded like I thought your bearing issue was fantastic. It's not. I've only seen it available on Skandix.de for way too much money. A local SAAB specialist uses a different bearing and bushing to rebuild the column but I don't know what those are. The shop is Kunkle Motors in Kunkle PA. I don't know if that helps. Maybe someone knows what combination would work.

I'll be pulling the steering wheel tomorrow and I may find a similar issue.
