I'm replacing the front wheel bearings on my 1986 t16. In the Bentley manual it says that the first thing to do is to "stake" the centre locking nut that holds everything together in there. What does that mean? I looked at it yesterday, but couldn't see anything but what looked like a regular (admittedly large) nut.

Does anybody understand where I'm going at? Could someone tell me what to do about it? I'd be most thankful.

On the lock-nut there is a soft collar that you can tap into the grove in the stub axle to stop it coming loose. This is "staking" the nut. You can lever this collar back out of the grove to undo the nut.

Or use a new nut if you prefer.
