I have a 2004 Saab 9-3 aero and I have a sputter only when I get on the gas all the way. I have had this problem before but it was a faster sputter than the one I have now and it gave me a misfire code and it was the ignition coil. I can drive the car fine as long as I don't step on it but I am wondering if it is another coil that's bad and it can happen without giving me a code? The problem I had before was the exact same symptoms expect a faster sputter and it gave me a code to read. Also can the sputter be slower or faster depending on what cylinder the bad coil is in? I need some advice before I buy the coils, and is there a way I can test to find out what coil is bad without a check engine light? One more question I have spare coils from an 03 9-3 but not an aero so can I use those coils for my car? They are exactly the same.

My car did that right after a tune and never flashed a code but would sputter and break up if I got on it.

Car was right out of the dealer and they never flagged a problem but Brian of Vtune warned me that coil #3 was going bad (an hour later), but the fancy "Tech II" never tossed a flag? Never flashed any codes but would break up horribly till I shut down and let it sit for a few minutes and then ran fine unless I got on it.

How about your plugs at that age of the car? Are they due?

Ya the plugs are brand new and gapped correctly. I noticed a little oil underneath the turbo around the hose to the charge pipe kind of in the seam toward the top. Somebody told me if it was leaking oil from the oil return line on the turbo it wouldn't give me this problem. Is it normal to have a little oil in that spot? And would a leak give me a problem?

if there is a problem with the seal it can definitely cause the problem, is this at full boost?

I don't think there is a problem with it but then again I could be wrong. The problem happens anywhere past half boost but only if I try to get full boost. It sometimes seems like it has a lack of power in first gear to but only to get going. I can barely notice that thought the sputter is my main concern.

You are aware that boost is limited in the lower gears aren't you? If not, read the Owners Manual. If you don't have one, do a google search as they are still available for free... Ron
