I just thought I'd post these as interesting pics. I was intending to change the gaskets and gearbox oil
but I'm not sure if I might go for a rebuild as well?

That gear box seems to be in great condition, what parts would you want rebuilt?

I have been told that the chains could be replaced if your worried about them, i would seeing how there right there.

What mileages has this box put out?

provided the box hasn't been changed at any point it should've covered 124,000.

When you remove the drivers the diff is automatically released as it is only the drivers that hold it in place. This is why you shouldn't ever replace both drivers at the same time (coz you'll drop your diff down inside the box)

Great pictures. I have not seen a 900 gearbox before. They have helped alay a fear I have had for sometime. My Primary drive chain seems to rattle, what I would call a considerable amount, but I am an anal perfectionist who is never happy with even the slightest rattle. When I have spoken to the specialist which I use he has said with his usual sage like wisdom, "Its Ok dont worry about it I would be more concerned if it didnt rattle, you will know when it needs attention". Having seen the pictures and the construction of the chain layout I can now see why he says there is little to worry about.
