I have wrapped a spare dash in Ultrasuede. It's a synthetic suede material, often used in furniture applications. I've also started wrapping the kickpanel too. Next will be the glove box door. The whole point was to cut down on glare, but the ****pit now looks like a Le Mans racer / WRC interior!
I felt I had to fill in the little cubbyhole on the top of the dash, otherwise the Ultrasuede wouldn't fit seamlessly around the corners of the cubbyhole. 3M 77 spray adhesive was used to bond everything together. The filler in the cubbyhole consists of some piece of puckboard (the stuff that lines hockey rinks) and some wood. I used a brad nailer to punch a few nails through them all, but they are also secured with some silicone. Then to fill in the edges, I used some resin made for fixing bumpers. I was afraid that with normal bondo, it would crack, as the dash is slightly flexible.
The Ultrasuede was purchased at a local 'couture' shop, catering to (mostly) females who like to make their own dresses and stuff like that. Felt kinda weird walking in there with my spare dash under my arm, asking to see the Ultrasuede.
Oh, the pictures kind of bring out a different colour to the Ultrasuede. It's much closer to black. Kudos to Kevin Yankton (don't think he posts here) who did the same on his NG900 project. Got the idea from him.
