'85 is more likely to be a 505, surely?
But it's Texas, it might as well be a '75 :)

The 504 was a surprisingly strong seller in the US as I recall... but they were crap and disintegrated very quickly except in Texas :p

It is strange that a car could be at the same time such a POS in America yet be the "workhorse of Africa" in conditions that should be much tougher.

Being so close to Mexico we get a lot of cool stuff here. In three years here I have spotted Seats, Fiats, Alfas, Citroens, Peugeots, Ford Ka's, Ford Transit vans. New and old stuff. Plus we have Revolution Motors, a huge Peugeot shop so lots of second hand 505, 505 estate and 205's around. I have seen a 206 at the mall, a Punto at WalMart, a Ka lives here at my apartment complex, a Ford Fusion (the SUV not the american car) lives next door, a Nissan X-Trail (not the American X-Terra), Volkswagen Polo's, Bora's (jetta), Lupo's. You get the idea.

Ah, but did you notice the white 2cv van that passed him...?
I believe that's an Acadyane that passes him, at 2:57, actually. Don't those Dyane motors have a kind of forced induction?

Priceless moments in this video:
2:13--epic long-throw shift from 3 to 2
2:45--the 2cv is issuing a cloud of what seems to be radiator steam. 2cvs are air-cooled...:p
3:30--epic long-throw shift from 3 to 4, pausing in neutral just like we all still do in our 900s!
4:10--"The lady is a Swedish high-performance beauty as well..."

Don't you go getting all A-series-pedantic on MY donkey, my friend...

More a fan-assisted-ram-air. There's a take-off from the cooling fan which slightly pressurises the air filter. I tend to refer to it as "gently-wafty-charged"

While I was watching it occurred to me that I saw this film when I was a kid. I recall being annoyed at the dude's sunglasses and the premise that the flashy red car could make everything better.

What happened to the idealist? I have fallen for the cheesy marketing

LOL at the ham-fisted downshift... it makes the car that much more appealing

The music makes me want to claw my ears off

It appears they made some press pictures for Saab during the filming, as seen on media.saab.com :

Actually yes, must be - the plate number MSL 130 is in the film too.

Anyone know how to lookup the Swedish plates to see if the car is still on the road?
