my 1999 93 convertible roof has suddenly started to close slowly and a soft top error shows. It will close but very slowly, has anyone any idea what the problem could be

sorted the problem with big thanks to the dealer in stockport. All it was was that the hydraulic release control behind the rear seats had worked open only a fraction but I'd lost pressure from driving the roof upwards

Make sure you check the clips in the trunk. I know it may sound obvious but if you leave them up the top will not close. Also, give the containment unit a light shake to ensure the senors are not 'thinking' the clips are up.

Should this fail I think you may need to take a trip to your local SAAB dealer. Perhaps they will just hook your car up and reset the system.

Top off the fluid ...

I noticed no one has replied to this so I'll give a general answer for you ...

My 99 SE Vert had the same problem and I told the dealer to fix it before I picked it up. I found online (not sure if in this forum or elsewhere) simple directions to fill the fluid. So I sent it over to them.

I know its a closed hydraulic system but there was room for more (stretched hoses? seepage? aliens? whatever) and it did in fact eliminate the 5-10 times the "soft top error" messages that came up on the sid and made the top go back like new.

No time so I can't get a link for you but if you search around for the error message you should find it.
