@Pacey & saabhunter

Vig225's Viggen has something round ~400 whp / ~440 wft/tq of torque (correct me if I'm wrong).......thats about to ~440-450 hp and +500 ft/tq.

Thats 160 more ft/lbs of torque than a F430, hell thats more than a Enzo :eek:, in a car that ways no less. The Ferrari would go backwards from a roll epically if the Viggen was in 3rd or 4th gear with full boost

i am going for the "beater sleeper" look. Got the car with some scaring on it from the previous owner, which I have no plans to do anything about but beat the dents out... however I will be well on my way to stg 2 by the end of the summer.

looks like crap, goes like hell ;ol;

I have a stock 2000 9-3 and ive been asked a few times if im the guy with the fast saab. then i tell them its stock still and dont really believe it. those 215 tires i put on work so much better than the 195s that were on there before. i think that adds a whole second or so in my 0-60 just becasue of traction. but i still have jetta's cavaliers, cobalts even with the 2.4l, and other small cars trying to race me. one guy was ridding my bumper as i was passing a semi and as i got over to let the crazy man by. he passes me with the peddle to the floor and i wasnt even fully out of my lane yet. never the less i showed him what my car could do. he wouldnt pass me after that and i even slowed down to 62 or so on the highway. he ended up getting off at the next exit and then got back on so he wasnt right behind me.

I like to stick with Saab based visual upgrades. that goes for wheels, bumpers, etc etc. I do add a bit of "tuned sense" with my "Made In Trollhattan", "Mike D Tuned" and "You Like This" stickers, not to mention yellow fogs, but other than that you can't really tell that mine is tuned.

Semi-sleeper. I like the look of a lowered 9-3 with some tasteful wheels, but you get these Honda's and Cobalt's that look like it could possibly be a Transformer.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Word. I am the same, I lowered my Viggen and put some BBs rk1 wheels on it. Otherwise it looks stock. No stickers or anything for me. Well, it looks stock other than the exhaust tip.

I was just on the phone with one of the mod=guys who sells carbon fibber stuff.

He says the best way to go is to add as many layers of carbon fibber as you can, as many at least till it will start generating Aero Dynomak Drag and then you will start going slower. He sounds like he knows his stuff, nothing in excess. ;ol;

Can you use radar resistable paint over carbon fibber? All this high tech stuff confuses me. :confused:

I know some guys at a defense contractor that tried the radar paint thing. Conclusion was that they needed to stealth the body too.

That aside, what is the attraction to carbon fiber vinyl cover everywhere? Maybe the fake carbon fiber hood could fool someone (you can buy a few), but I'd be painting it anyway if I had a real one. What's the possible point of carbon fiber stick on vinyl on a roof? Am I supposed to beleive you re-engineered your car to put on a CF roof? How about a dash, or interior panels, etc? Are we supposed to think it would save enough weight over plastic to be real?

Back in the 50's my cousin Dave was one of the original street rod guys and as he got older he showed up for a funeral in a 1970 Chevy Caprice that looked like an insurance salesman's car, white with a vinyl roof and 396 flags. He darned near pulled fillings out when he got on it and it was in reality a worked 427 but every badge and decal had been changed. Seems he was one of the serious street guys and it was all about money. I used to think he was goofy with his thick glasses, a mohawk hair cut and his old Ford street rod with the "Charioteers" plates. He was even one up on "The Fonz".

Later in life in retrospect, he was the "real deal".

I hope this doesn't get pulled but just taken as it is, a retrospective look at that thing called "street racing" in our area in the 1960''s and early 1970's.

The government was in the middle of putting in pieces of the Interstate highway system in these odd 5 and 10 mile segments that would start at "nowhere" and go to "nowhere", so you had one on ramp and a few miles of highway with no traffic. No traffic meant no patrols except for the occasional "round up" of those kids who were waking up the cows. Putting the pedal down in town would get you a pile of tickets and even an escort home and little talk on the porch with Dad.

Those days of deserted "roads to nowhere" are long gone and the mods are correct on the "no race" policy.

I'm all about the sleeper direction. De-badging to an extent with clean and tasteful exterior mods. Gauges tucked away, and some clean upgrades on the interior. The rest.. Performance..

I do agree that street racing today is nothing like it was back in those days. Less traffic on the roads, less unskilled drivers, and more open space to have a little Friday night fun. There was a lot more respect then as well. Respect for other drivers and respect for what you drive. If you don't respect the power your vehicles have bad things will happen.

Today.. There are plenty of drag strips to safely and legally have fun and/or have your grudge matches at.

In my eyes, outrageous exterior mods are never excusable. At work today someone pulled in for car cleaning supplies in a C5 Z06. One of my favorite cars. This one, however, was half yellow/half Corvette graphic. It had a 1.5 foot tall wing, hideous 20 inch wheels, "quad" projector headlights that stuck up over the lens, and chrome tail light covers.

When the guy pulled away, I clearly heard a big *** turbo spooling up.

Even though that car probably had 550-600 hp, I couldn't see myself owning it and I can't justify the appearance "mods".

Lowering and wheels and small, subtle changes are one thing though.
