I know we're getting way off topic here but frankly it's a bit pathetic.
There's a clear difference between spam, advertising and advice/offersand responses to questions.
When I ask about a part, I find it helpful if someone provides a link which possibly includes a picture and a price. I am so incredibly intelligent that I can work out for myself how to use Google to find other possible suppliers, perhaps one nearer so I don't incurr P&P or one cheaper even.
I just think it does get petty when there's a half rule about "no advertising" with blatant flash adverts at the top right of the forum page!
Both here and Saabscene have this issue and the one great thing about the Saab forums which was noted by a young lad that I sent a Saab link to was that he was struck at just how unlike the Ford forums he visits are. Ours are adult and rich in content, his aren't.
I would like to see the common sense adult criteria applied and petty rules removed that do little but provide opportunites for workarounds. URL masking isn't exactly difficult and just means hopping over a hurdle to provide the original intent.
Over to you mods, how about a new thread to bash this one out and explain to us mere mortals in simple terms the deal behind this without the cloak and dagger stuff? That is my challenge to you!
David.
