Hello, I just bought an 06 saab 93 aero and I notice on the highway that in 6th gear at 65mph the rpm's are at about 2100 and at 75mph, 2500 rpm. This seems stupidly high.

Comments?

Thanks

I think mine runs about the same. Most cars I've had run at about half of their redline on the highway, so I figured it was normal. The only cars I've been in that loafed along at under 2,000 on the highway were big rwd V8 cars but I assumed that was because they had power to spare and needed to post better highway fuel economy figures.

if you look at some sports cars gearing,@70 mph you'll be doing 3500rpm..but i think nowadays it's more like just under 3k..

some of my old cars were like that, called a short ratio box, which would out accelerate a car with a tall/long ratio.

you will notice that most cars today have the gearing set up so 55mph is the best cruising speed per mpg.
