So I tried to be pretty thorough for my recent build and pretty much documented wherever I spent money on the car. The above chart is everything I personally bought for the car and how much it ran me at the time. For anyone doing their own B284R/LP9 rebuild, I think this chart should be a decent reflection of what you’ll be looking at.

Now, granted, I opted for almost new OEM everything. You could def save some money there, and some components I only bought ’cause I broke the original lol. On the other hand, I didn’t buy some parts I could’ve (such as pistons, thermostat housing, etc.) and I didn’t add everything I did buy (such as fluids, new battery, not engine stuff). So with those two points, maybe it levels out.

I also added tool costs, as for me personally, it was somewhat significant. But I imagine that’ll be a nonissue for most people rebuilding an engine (unlike me lol). I also bought some extraneous stuff: like the gold Mishimoto intercooler was 100% not required ?.

It was definitely a “fun” project for me (though I wanted to push the car off a bridge many times). I had to do a lot of research and compiling during the process. And this is that. Hopefully, this chart comes in handy for anyone also rebuilding their engine in the future ??. My rebuild below ???

This is great. Thank you, as I’ve recently acquired a 08 Saab 93 xwd 2.8t. Got lucky with a DO88 kit and Vtuner stage 0 handheld. She’s around 180k miles and winter is coming. I’m seriously considering this so that I may be able to enjoy this car longer then expected. Any specific sites you’d recommend for acquiring the engine components?

No problem. I'm just glad my threads and posts are hopeful to anyone who comes across them. The 2.8T XWD is a blast to drive.

But even today I typically find myself looking through RockAuto. I'll use eSaabParts and eEuroParts if I want something specifically Saab OEM. Occasionally I'll find a nice deal on eBay. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure my entire clutch assembly came from eBay haha.

Also... at 180k, if this is going to be a big rebuild, I would highly recommend replacing the whole turbo or at least CHRA. I learned my lesson the hard way

Yes, I’ve noticed a bit of oil consumption. Sadly she’s my only ride but I’ll be hopefully able to get a set price on everything and figure out money wise. A lot of my friends drive Subarus and time again they’ve been wowed by the performance of this vehicle. She’s a bit rough on the edges but that’s ok for now as many people have tried their hand at thinking they were fast until the “wu hong war whistle” spooled up and gave them nice gapplebees menu. 😂
