Is the the GM tech II tool the same as a Saab Tech II tool?

I have a 1995 900 se. The top doesn't work. Now what I want to know is if I hook the car up to a tech II tool will it be able to tell me EXACTLY which motor is f-ed up, or what I need to fix. I just need a yes or no on both questions. Thanks for the help.

So a GM dealership probably wouldn't be able to do anything to the car. Is there any way to put the top up and down manually? And if so how do you do it. I know the owner's manual shows how to put it up, but what about down. Can I just do all of the steps in reverse? Once again, thanks.

lots of motors, top was designed by mad engineers

whose ideas were far too complicated for the space shuttle and they were fired by NASA, Saab picked them up...

Seriously, there is one motor which fails most frequently, called the tonneau motor it is located in the trunk. It has a gear/motor and linkage which moves the tonneau cover itself, check Ebay for all these parts at least to see them is person. It helps to visualize the system IMHO. The gear/motor is a weakness in both the small gear and the gearbox chassis itself.

Two more motors raise and lower the fifth bow, which holds the rear window too. Two further motors raise and lower the entire roof package. A last motor runs the little latches which clamp the fifth bow as the final step in closing the roof.

See what i mean about the shuttle?

The stipped tonneau drive gear and flex chassis are by far the most common fixes, It can be repaired by a slightly above average DIY who is careful.

A Saab dealer with the Tech II is very handy for troubleshooting and getting you on the right path.

Good luck, tons of posts on the subject here.
