Does anybody on the list have any information on any of the standard or modified camshafts fitted to the B and H series engines, carb models only, i would ideally like the duration/peak/lift etc.

I can do standard stuff. Will put turbo as well as I have it and it might be useful to others!

Note: All lift figures are for 0 valve clearance. All durations are for nominal valve clearances.

B engine:

Carb (MY75):

Lift Inlet 10.4mm
Lift Exhaust: 10.6mm

Timing:

Inlet opens 12deg BTDC Closes 56deg ABDC
Exhuast opens 56deg BBDC Closes 12deg ATDC

Carb (MY76-)

Lift Inlet: 10.3mm
Lift Exhaust: 10.5mm

Inlet opens: 10deg BTDC Closes 54deg ABDC
Exhuast opens: 54deg BBDC Closes 10deg ATDC

Fuel injection:

Lift inlet: 10.8mm
Lift exhaust: 11.0mm

Inlet opens: 10deg BTDC Closes 54deg ABDC
Exhaust opens: 46deg BBDC Closes 18deg ATDC

Turbo:

Lift inlet: 10.3mm
Lift exhaust: 10.5mm

Inlet opens: 12deg BTDC closes 40deg ABDC
Exhaust opens: 62deg BBDC closes 2deg ATDC

H engine:

Carb:

Lift inlet: 10.8mm
Lift exhaust: 11.0mm

Inlet opens: 10deg BTDC Closes 54deg ABDC
Exhaust opens: 46deg BBDC Closes 18deg ATDC

This is the same as the B engine injection cam.

Bit more info here on standard and aftermarket cams for the H engine in the 900: http://www.pajjakid.com/ubipa/Camshafts.htm

Thanks Nutcase.
Catcams are probably one of the best cam manufacturers, i have one of their cams in my 106 Rallye, although the engine is not finished yet, but i have driven cars with them fitted and they are spot on!

The other minor detail to watch out for is the fuel pump lobe on the H series engine, while both cams (carb and injection) will fit the head, if you want to retain the mechanical fuel pump you will need the lobe on the end of the cam to drive it. Of course you can fit an electric pump, but the mechanical pump is usually OK up to around 130 bhp, after this it starts to struggle to deliver enough fuel.

I was talking with Matt at QEP today, they are the UK agent for Catcams, they are hoping to produce an adjustable top sprocket so that the cam timing can be set more accurately, they already list 3 camshafts for the 8 valve, but they will produce custom profiles, here is the link www.catcams.be/800x600/images/empty.gifThe cost of the 284 degree cam is £216.67 + VAT

It doesn't appear to link straight to the SAAB page, click on the home page and navigate to the SAAB page. www.catcams.be

What about a vernier adjustable for the B engine CAM? Now THAT I'd be interested in :)
Give Matt a call at QEP 01444 243720.

I know that some people slot the holes on thier cam sprockets, but you do not have the luxury of graduated timing marks, it would be trial and error and best done on a dyno.
