I live in Spain and have a 1992 Saab 900s fitted with a Lucas 5AM mass air flow sensor 7335OA, which has failed. I need to find a replacement unit, but does anybody know if a Bosch replacement unit will fit my car? I understand that these cars were originally fitted with both units. Bosch units seem to be easier to find on the internet and I believe that the Lucas unit is no longer available. Does anybody have a Lucas unit for sale?

Cars all over the world were sold with Bosch EFI, while Lucas was sold primarily in the UK... not a huge number of cars by comparison.

That is somewhat ironic as my car has the steering wheel on the left, was first registered in Barcelona in Spain and has been here ever since. There are very few Saabs in Spain, so my chances of finding a Lucas unit in Spain are not good. Equally ironically, at one point,
I found a Lucas MAF at a Jaguar dealer in the US, apparently it was also fitted to the Jaguar XJ.

Wow, that's quite the trifecta! :D

If the 15CU (Jaguar AJ6) MAF is compatible, maybe it would be worth looking at Range Rover? The Rover V8 (3.5l, 3.9l, 4.2l) also used Lucas CU, so maybe there is a source of MAFs there?

There's also always the Heritage Center... although I'm not sure they'll sell you Jag parts if you tell them it's for a Saab. :p

Jaguar XJ6 4.0 Mass Air Sensor Meter 73350A Saab 900 5am lrz902 dbc12517r

Vendor:Jaguar
Type:Mass Air Flow Meter
sold out!
Jaguar XJ6 4.0 MAF Up for sale is a Good working Jaguar 4.0 liter AMM / MAF. This also fits European / UK model Saab 900-Turbos (most) from 1989-1993 with the lucas injection system. This will NEVER fir a saab 900 in the US. The part # is Lucas (73350A) / 73350 A -- Match this with your original. unit is used and is fully runtested in an actual car - works well! I bad AMM can cause a lean running condition, lopy idle, a no start, runs but has no power, random stalling, or any other strange running conditions. This unit looks to be pretty recent, in very nice physical condition. This is CHEAP compared to new or rebuilt, even at wholesale prices!

Seems like a reasonable bet to me!

This:

suggests that the old Rover V8 MAF is the same too, so you should have no end of possibilities... I think everyone in the UK drives a Land Rover. :p

That's good news! I am far from being a technical expert, so I appreciate all the advice. The one in the link that you sent is cheaper, I notice.
This is my Saab, days before it broke down.

You never know with MAFs. Bosch has a billion part numbers and it's always unclear exactly what the difference from one to the next is.

I had a Jaguar XJR, which had Denso fuel injection, and crazily enough the non-supercharged MAF had the same part number as the supercharged MAF, but the supercharged version says "S/C" on it. Who knows what you're supposed to do with that information.

I think it at least makes sense that since Lucas didn't produce that much fuel injection tech, it probably avoided lots of part numbers. Making only one MAF for 13/14/15CU seems reasonable. :D I bet the EFI on the 12-cylinders just used two MAFs that were each the same as the six cylinder ones. :D

What a complicated world these MAF'S inhabit! A friendly Saab parts dealer gave me the part number for my MAF, but didn't have the part itself. I like Jaguar XJR's

I know a local guy here in Spain who might be able to do it, so I will keep the old part just in case. He rebuilds everything else electrical.
