Ive just replaced the batteries in the FOB unit, but it seems that it rarely works, sometimes better than others. The light always blinks on the remote itself but rarely locks/unlocks the car and only does when you are an arms length away from the car. Any suggestions?

Probably the remote transmitter is shot, but it can be cleaned.
Those people with a true collectable vehicle(Chevy Corvette, maybe), or any Porsche, would have the same problem with antique electronics...There may be people who do electronics and restoration..
There should be some way of determining exactly which end is "weak", the transmitter or the reciever..

I cleaned all the contacts for the batteries inside the remote to ensure proper voltage and it seems to be working much better now. 2 minutes with some rubbing alcohol and Q-Tips seemed to do the trick
