I was changing my wheel bearing/hub assembly and while I was doing this a cog sprung out after I removed the hub. I'm pretty sure that was the cog the wheel speed sensor uses to measure the speed of the wheel. I also noticed it was split in one place. Not sure if that is supposed to be like that. Anyway, I put it back as best as I could and hoped for the best.

Lo and behold, there was an obvious ESP fault as the car could not get above about 30 miles per hour and acceleration was clearly impacted. Right now i have the ABS fuse pulled and that solved the problem, but my speedometer is dead.

Just wondering what that cog was, where it should be, and where I can get another one.

Sounds like you need a new ABS ring...also known as reducter ring (I think)
Part number is 1282241 commonly available and lots of cheap aftermarket parts on Ebay

You will need to remove drive shaft to fit it (I think)

Update

Thank you, that's it!

Ok, one more question. Before this all happened, my ABS light was already on and every once and a while on the highway the cruise control would cut out. Along with this, the abs would grab the rear wheel for a split second. Not sure it's related, but are there cogs for the rear wheels as well? Or, perhaps something different?

The front rings crack and cause problems with the ABS and speed feedback.
Its a common problem and in your case the ring has come off completely.

You should check the opposite side too.

There indeed could be other issues but one step at a time...get the ring(s) sorted first.
