Hi everyone,

I have a quick question about a minor issue I have with my Saab 9-3 ARC sedan 2004 that I hope someone has come across.
Whilst accelerating around corners at moderate speed (40-80kmh) more often on left hand corners, if the fuel in my tank is less than a quarter remaining, the engine stutters and coughs and basically depicts that it is running out of fuel. Now this is obviously a fuel issue as when I fill the tank again the problem stops. What I am hoping to find, is someone who has seen this and had it fixed and can let me know exactly what it is. Is it a sensor or a fuel pump or something else.
Thanks very much, I really appreciate any input from anyone

I had a bit of an issue with this before hand and so i took it to my local saab specialist. Went to a place called Aktive Motors in my neighbourhood and the owner had told me that when doing a hard corner and you have quarter or less than a quarter tank the gas moves off to the side and causes the car to choke and cut off. The way he said to fix it.......Keep the car above half tank. Not a permanent fix but thats all he could do for me.

How well does the car accelerate under WOT with a lowish tank, does it sputter then?

I had a similar problem on my Aero and it was the pump but the system in the V6 Aero system is return-less as opposed to the I4's which have a return system. So the problem could be completely different.

Does it come up with a CEL when it happens? I would see if you can get someone to hook up a diagnostic tool and monitor the fuel pressure and you might get a better picture from that.

Like brechnar100 said, if you don't want to delve into it then keep the tank above 1/2, but the concern is that if it's your pump and it fails...

Thanks for the suggestions

G'Day Wynnston,

Thanks for the advice. Without hopefully sounding stupid, what does WOT stand for?? and is CEL some sort of warning code on the display?

Thanks

Andrew

Help

Hi, my problem still exists. If the fuel level is lower than a quarter tank and I give it WOT in a straight line, it's fine, it's just cornering. Everything else with the car is fine.
I hope someone out there reads this that has had the same problem and fixed it.
Cheers
Drew
