Hi everyone. I am the happy owner of a 2007 Saab 9-3 SC Arc 2.0T and I plan to remain happy by replacing my US spec halogen headlights with European ones because... the US spec headlights don't have a levelling motor in them (and the switch does not have levelling capabilities). In Europe, that's a problem.

According to the 1998 ECE-Regulation R48, every vehicle needs to be equipped with a system to compensate for the vehicle inclination caused by different loading conditions. The regulation expects the adjustment to be done automatically but when an automatic system is not available, a manual system can also be used as long as it allows the user to return the headlamps to the initial (default) position once the vehicle loading returns to normal (e.g. the trunk is emptied). Without that little working switch in the dash, I won't be passing the technical inspection. The headlamp levelling using the screws under the bonnet is not sufficient to satisfy the regulation.

So here's the question:
Can this be done with minimum to medium effort? (meaning replacing the switch and headlamps, tech2 to reconfigure headlamps and change the BCM, UEC [REC and maybe something else?] to EU market)?
Are there different connectors?
Maybe different wiring? (i did noticed that the connector that goes into the switch has only 6 wires while it can accommodate 8).

Thank you all for reading through and helping out.

I was curious what it would look like.
(there should be a world standard for somethind as basic as a light switch.)

You have to add 2 wires on light switch pins 5 and 6.
Pin 5 wire is from dash fuse 20. Pin 6 going to headlamps pin 8 (both).
Headlamp also needs wire from UEC fuse 20 to pin 6 and pin 7 is GND.

After that you might have to reprogram UEC (probably not, but...)

Lol. Like I said. The wiring isn't there on US spec cars.

Wiring need is relative easy to check; look connector, if pins 6;7 and 8 are empty, you need to wiring assy.

You guys are awesome, as usual. Great to be a part of this community.
I'll let you know how it goes once I get all the parts ready.

Just to mention, the service guy that used to maintain this car said it's impossible. I guess he's just lazy considering that instead of controlling the front fog lights through the lights switch (the car initially had no front fog lights), he installed a separate ON/OFF switch on the dashboard...
