ok, so i had been looking at Alpine headunits to replace my stock stereo so that i could get an aux input going for my ipod.

my biggest hangup is the aethetics of the alpine units. they look cheap, bright and too busy. i just can't handle putting something that is that flashy into the dash of my aero.

so, i've been looking at the Nakamichi CD400. it's got an option of the amber or green lighting, which is consistent with saab. the only thing that i'll be giving up is the option to have the ipod interface.

here's my thought. i'm going to install the nakamichi unit and run an aux 1/8th cable down and intall it into one of my unused buttons next to the seat heaters. what do you guys think? is the digital ipod link really worth it, or is having the flexability to use any aux analog source better?

I'd take the digital iPod linkage every time. I don't think the Alpine units spoil the aesthetics of the 9-5 dash at all, the green display matches the speedo/tacho/ACC display or the orange display matches the SID unit. But hey thats just my opinion. :cheesy:

Ive been looking at the Nakamichi unit myself. Its not cheap but its certainly for the audiophile, Ive got my eye on one thats half price. I have the basic saab unit in mine and it is awful, I guess I will have to upgrade the speakers as well. :(

How do you know if yours is AS1 or AS2? What is the difference? All I know is that I have the so called "Prestige" stereo as listed in the 9-5 manual with 9 speakers.

Then you have to top of range AS3 unit.:D (look for the little Harmon-Kardon logo's on the grilles of the rear shelf speakers)
