I changed the gearbox oil to Redline MTL (70W-80) and am quite pleased. I was initially hoping this would improve shifter feel.....just a little bit maybe. Nope, not one bit and I was very disappointed. However, after a week of driving I can say that overall shifting is very much improved. The engagement on all the gears is nearly instantenous, with only high rev up changes requiring a slight amount of effort. It no longer sticks in 4th occasionally and I have no trouble grabbing 1st or reverse. I even downshifted into 1st at 20 mph, not something I'd normally recommend, but it did it non the less without a fuss. Everything just works better now......now if I could just sort that shifter. :(

Wow, did it really make that much difference?

Did you flush through first - or just replace the standard gearbox oil with the mtl?

I get terrible transmission into first - and sometimes loose reverse!

Maybe it's my alignment though!

Cheers

 uuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh k

It made a noticable difference, in day to day driving it's completely slick and smooth. It's only when I'm pounding round at 5000 rpms that it has trouble (ground 2nd today, but I blame myself not the tranny  ). 1st and reverse are still the kickers though, they're much better but not perfect. If I try to rush reverse it will grind, 1st hasn't growled at me yet though I try to get the clutch in early before I select it. It's worth a shot I say, cheaper than a rebuild.

And I did the full on flush.
