This is on my wagon. Whats the culprit? ~90K miles on the car. don't think the shocks/struts have been done...

Tires guys say they think its the shocks/struts, but they don't do alot of work on Saabs.

How long since alignment was checked? Bad alignment will wear tires.

At 90k you're due for rear shocks for sure, front struts probably.

I had that problem on my 1996 900SET ... it was the rear springs.

Replace the the springs and shocks ... you will notice a world of difference.

Typically cupping is a kind of wear that is due to the inability of the shock/strut being able to firmly dampen the movement of the suspension. If cupping exists it is a case of needing at least new struts in the back.

If you needed shims in the rear (as I do since my car is lowered) you would get wear on the inside of each tire which would be consistent in pattern. Cupping is much more of a flattening of the tread surface due to the wheel "skipping" after rebounding out of a pothole, expansion joint, etc...
