I have a 2007 sportcombi with a rear hatch problem. I have searched and searched to no avail so I am hoping someone can help. My rear hatch has always stayed up on its own with no problems. Then around a month ago it just stopped staying up all together. I have dealt with dying lift supports on other cars in the past which gradually go out, but this was instantaneous. There are no exposed lift supports and I have no idea where to begin fixing/replacing these guys and I would love for this thing to stay up on its own. Is it a spring system and not gas filled supports? How do I access them? Why does Saab always have to be so unique? Any information is much appreciated.

The supports are in the roof covered by the headliner IIRC (I don't have an SC). I will try to post the removal/replacement instructions from the WIS.

Thanks for the great information. If anyone has any experience doing this job please chime in. This looks like a lot of work to replace the lift supports, and I feel like it isn't all necessary for the job.
