I know this is primarily an amp 1 issue...My question is how do you know its an amp 1 issue. What are the steps to bypass the "fiber optic cable"..What does the cable look like.

In a nutshell: how do I make my radio work again..(dummy instructions)

Do an advanced search on amp1, it's a common issue. You need to remove the amp1 under the drivers seat. I pulled the seat to do mine, but I bet you could do it just by rasing the seat up and putting it fully forward - then it is one screw to undo and unclip the connector.

Then you have a number of choices - send the faulty amp to SAABradio for the optical bypass or a full repair:

Or, and you will have to remove the seat for this one - bypass the amp1 yourself by splicing the two optical cables directly together at the plug you pulled from the amp1. You can bodge it with a bit of plastic tube or get the proper MOST connector from Etadyne - see instructions;

Second choice is your best bet for diagnosis if you are not sure its amp1 (but I bet it is!) - MOST connector will cost only $20 mailed.
