Hi all, these past few weeks I’ve been messing around trying to get my radio antenna motor to work again and here’s where I’m at.

The old unit had a broken mast and motor was not functional (no whir, no nothin) but I did get radio signals. I replaced the whole thing with another used one I found online and after installing, it still didn’t work :(. I get radio signals but antenna doesn’t budge and there’s no motor noise at all. My grandfather and I grabbed a voltmeter and checked out all the connections. We thought it could’ve been a ground issue so we spliced the ground and re-routed it so that it we could know for sure that wasn’t the issue, what we found is that power is being supplied up to the connector for the motor on the cars end, but after that nothing.

I initiated a return for the new motor but my question is should I try again with another used motor, splurge and get a new one from Eeuroparts or elsewhere, go a different route and get a manual one, or let it be and cancel the return, just living with it as I still get radio but signals are weak.

Thanks.

There are 2 power (voltage) for antenna and ground (in shell). When radio is on, you should have power to both wires and antenna goes up. When you turn radio off, there is only 1 power wire and antenna goes down.

Do you have an after market radio? If you do connect the antenna signal wire to the amplifier feed wire from the radio. Hope this helps
Thanks for the comment! Yes I do, I actually upgraded it a few months ago, when I was in there all I remember seeing was the radio plug in cable and just the normal stuff for the headunit. So you’re saying that’s theres another cable that’s supposed to connect in there? Radio works and I get signals antenna just doesn’t go up and down.

There is a signal wire for the antenna. That is why the antenna has 4 wires. The coaxial for the am fm signal, a constant 12 v, ground, and a signal 12v wire to to let the antenna know that the radio is on. The amplifier wire from the radio is what will activate the power antenna.

Hmm, wires leading to nowhere :/, the previous owner must’ve forgotten this one when they did their aftermarket headunit, and I forgot because it’s way back there hiding under other wiring. You think that might have to do with it? It’s the 2 wires, solid green and that green and white one that’s not connected.
