following my mishap on sunday with my SID i need to replace it so my question is does the new sid just plug in and work or does it need to be tech 2ed

If you ordered a new one it should be plug and play, but there are differences between the convertable and the hardtop version is sioftware related thing and that will need a techII. There are different software versions and some updates have not worked correctly so if you get some wierd warnings you might need to get a techII update for the one you fit.
