I've been messing with the wife's 9-3 and going to take another
crack at it. I'm getting a repetitive code P0606 and looks like it
will display by itself. Before I had it flagging with other codes and
it looks like they were likely red herrings.
I think the wiring is okay and I re-seated the ECU connectors and
double checked the ground. The charging system is normal at 14.3
vdc. I'm wondering about installing an eBay ECU and thought I'd
check to see if anyone here has done that before. I called a shop
and though they have a tech II, they make it sound like even if the
ECU is the same part number, it might not work. That it has to have
the same trans etc along with having to have a not too distant
VIN. Should I just bite the bullet and have a shop install a new unit?
Just that it's possible it's not the real problem here. One place on
eBay sells reconditioned (so they say[whatever that means]), ECU's
for $50 and they have oodles of them and good feedback...

If she is a '03 non-convertible, then your post should be in the newer 9-3 section.
I'd google the code, find out what it is; your ECU is probably OK.

Default Possible to install used ECU in '03 9-3 sedan

I think I might have it fixed and if it flags again, I'll re-post. I bought
a used ECM on eBay and had a local Saab shop install it. Seems to
be working fine. They also updated the software...
What I did find out when replacing an ECM with a used unit, you
need to get one from a car with the same trans, engine and year.
The actual part number can be different but don't try to mix with
other years etc. Just because the part number is the same, doesn't
mean it will interchange...need to match the mentioned items.
At least this is what the dealer (defunct and renamed shop), told
me. They charged an hour labor to do the work after I mounted
the replacement unit.
Thanks all for your input.
