Now here's a debate I've yet to see on a car message board.

Some people call them rims, some call them wheels.

I'm interested to see the results... I'm voting "wheels"

Cheers,

Wheels. "Rims" originates from the old days when you could get chrome "rims" on your steel wheels (Chrome trim rings). However, I'd say today that both are fully acceptable, seeing as even hardcore car guys use the word "rim".

I'm going to disagree with Miscreant. While it is true that newer generations of kids grew up with the disgraceful/incorrect "r" word, people who know use the word "wheels." THE RIM IS THE OUTERMOST PART OF THE WHEEL. Real car enthusiasts know that (just look at this poll so far) while meat-whistles can say whatever the $%^& they want to name a wheel.

Now a days, I think some in the industry are calling them "dubs". I vote for wheels.
"dubs" are for double 10" i.e. 20" which would look stupid on the 9-2X and be essentially undrivable. i.e. the rubber would have to be a rubber band, in which case, you'd be riding on the "rims".

HAHA your right Scargo... according to http://www.rapdict.org/Dubs

dub

  1. 20" car wheel rim. "Can I get a woop woop to these n***** from all my b****es who don't got love for n***** without dubs" -- Jay Z (Can I get a...)A
  2. Another word for dancing (grinding)
  3. A 20 sack of weed.
  4. A 20 dollar bill.
  5. A special way of remixing a bass-line, or a special kind of bass-line
  6. A rapper called dubl T (pronounced Double T)
change my vote to "rims" in this case
