Was there ever any resolution to this? I have a 2.8t that will be needing a clutch soon, and I can't seem to find any definitive answer about which clutch to use (JZW Stage 1).

hey guys. one question.
is the spline size for the f40 gearbox: 1 x 23 metric spline?
(1.00” OD and 23 teeth on the splines)

thanks!

So, sorry if I missed this, but has anybody actually been able to install the SPEC twin disk in either one of the drivetrain variants for the 2.8 (XWD or FWD)?

tilton twin disc is good. You may want to adapt the OEM TOB to work with it, that's how the twin disc worked in the SWC Aston Martin manual trans, conversion. That will simplify hydraulics. I cant recall how the TOB bearing made out on the Tilton pressure plate to tell the truth. Or you use the tilton TOB and adapt the hydraulics that requires some fittings to be made...

I have a theory that the TOB is the weakest link in this whole.operation and it is the source of many failures.
During my research, I could never find. An uprated one or a way to solve the problem.

I'm positive these were meant for both xwd & fwd cars mate, that doesn't sound right to me and a bit of a cop out (I'm never touching SPEC after all this bad press I'm hearing!!!)....you need to speak to Pat and see what the hell's going on as this really is unacceptable. Have any Aero guys had issues with fitting?

I was dead set on getting this but couldn't get hold of Pat for ages so had to start from fresh with CG (that took a lot of messing around over 2-3 months but worked out fine in the end)

This 777 kit just so your aware is a little grabby/aggressive pulling off in 1st, that's the 6 puck paddle disc, but also have the Quaife fitted (not sure if that makes any difference here though!) Also should come with new flywheel bolts as the stock ones are too long but double check this with them.

Feels like the wheels spin slightly then drives away fine. Definitely has a fair bit of chatter at idle in neutral, but goes when you press the clutch pedal in. I've only done just under 2k miles so far, had to break it in for 500 miles as they recommended.

Holding fine so far at stage 5 (18t) I'm getting it dyno'd in 3 weeks so will have a better idea how much torque I've got here but I'm hoping it'll also be fine for another turbo upgrade later this year.

Also the CG 666 & 777 kits are for fwd only, I've asked for the Turbo X guys but they won't make any so it's just for the v6 Aero & Vectra VXR.
Has the 777 clutch improved any by usage? I am currently trying to choose which one I will buy, 666 or 777. Cars resale value might suffer from 777 if it stays as grabby as you describe. Although I will need the 777 if I look my torque output but 666 might be sufficient with occasional WOT.

Still pretty grabby pulling off, feels like the wheels spin very slightly then pulls off ok. I need to get the missis to take a video of it when I pull off.

Still had a lot of chatter at idle but that was expected.

It's holding fine though, I've only done around 2.5k though

It would be very nice if you managed to take a video of 1st gear start and running through gears to 6th.

I'll upload a vid next time in home, nothing really to show from 2nd onwards though, it engages fine/same as the standard clutch. It's a 6 puck disc so not that aggressive really. Just 1st & reverse are a little snatchy and it's pretty loud in neutral but they said to expect that with the SMF. I've also got the Quaife LSD fitted so not sure if this contributes to how it pulls off. (LSD's well worth getting though, it's transformed how the car drives) ;ol;

The 666 kits meant to take less torque than the 777 so if your planning on going to stage 5 it might not last long.

I ordered the 777 clutch kit. Now ordering also Wavetrac differential because why not, transmission is out already . Any news about the video ;). Not trying to push you :cheesy:

i know everyone hates spec, for whatever reason, but my clutch is working out great
since i'm not out to create a drag racer, for daily driving it's been fine.
hardly any noise in neutral and now that it's broken in, the feel is much closer
to stock than the on/off that was present when new.
they took their sweet time getting mine made but other than that i have no complaints.
i ordered spec stage 3+ and am on vtuner stage 0

How did it pass smoke test if it had a small vacuum leak?
My thoughts exactly!

Whatever.
You said it! My thoughts again. Thanks for all your help!

Thanks for everyone's help. Stage 4 clutch is working out great so far. Trying hard not to push it for a few hundred miles, I'll be back to report on it later or - gasp! - start a new thread
and give it a proper review.

How's the Spec stage 4 working out? Did you get the Spec flywheel? What stage are you and how much torque is it holding? Thanks!

I am in the process of changing my clutch. Yesterday I got the transmission removed and got a look to my current clutch. Clutch disc looks weird because it has worn almost only from the outer area. 50% is good and 50% is polished. What could have caused this . Pressure plate and flywheel both have visible hotspots.

I have said it before and I will say it again: what this platform needs is an uprated throw out bearing and of those, never heard about.
