Ah...

1996 NG900, Saab Black (170)

The hood developed rot from stone chips and horrible weather. I decided to chop out the rot and repair the paint.

On closer inspection the whole hood was covered in stone chips so one ill fated weekend, I sanded the whole hood, welded in new metal, primed it and ready for paint.

It probably would have been less hassle to get one from a breakers yard, but hey ho..

OK, so now paint. Its a non metallic paint, so would I need to clear coat it?.
If anyone has done some painting on their saab, I'd like to know what paint you used and what provided a best match.

Cheers!

i bought aerosol cans from expresspaint.com and did my best to blend it in. their paint matching is superb. you'd need a lot, though.

From the factory the paint is lacquer, it has no clear coat. I wouldn't rattlecan the whole thing, get a compressor with a gun. Make sure pain in a room with ZERO dust, and apply thick and evenly (especially with lacquer, its thick from the factory!). Wetsand after to remove any orange peel.
