my 97 cs stars to overheat after i start racing the engine...the temp just sky rockets...the radiator hose coming from the engine to the intake right b4 the turbo had broken off a while ago, so i changed that, but it might have been a little bit of a smaller diameter hose...u guys think thats the problem?

Overheating leads to 'New Headgasket" take the problem seriously.
Suggest a cooling system examination. Rad Flush, New Thermostat (80degrees C) and Fan thermo switch and new hioses were they show any swelling at all.
Mebe even a new Serpentine belt.. those fail spectacularily :)
Pay now or pay large later.

Not having enough coolant in the engine usually leads to overheating. If the top hose broke away, then I would assume that you have lost a lot of coolant. The correct diameter top hose is also important for the flow to the radiator.
