Hey all, I've been searching and have found a good bit of information on changing out speakers, however...when trying to install my newly acquired Boston Acoustic FX3's, I noticed the stock speakers are wired with a plastic plug/receptacle setup, where the BA's are bare! Lilke I said, I'm way novice at this type of thing, but want better sound!

Can the gods of audio that dwell here give me advice on this? I read something in a post about a wire line tap run for the new speakers, and it can be purchased at Radio Shack (like everything else it seems). Can somebody give me a part number or something? Or anything else that I would need to get these installed? I was ready to cut the wires tonight to get rid of the plug, but thought I would go here first to be sure. Any help is greatly appreciated...and I love learning how to do new things!!!!

Well, my BA3's came with wires that had spades already connected to them. I just cut about 1 foot of the wire at the end with the spades and used that to connect to the speakers. I cut off the stock connector in the car's wiring, stripped the wires on both the car and the new wiring, twisted the two together (don't mix up the negative and positive! 1=neg, 2=pos from the car and the speakers should be labeled) and spun them together with wire connectors:

I used wire tap-ins from Radiosnack so that I didn't have to cut the OEM speaker harness. That way, should I ever get the Aero I want, I can just pull the speakers and put the stock ones back in!

i just wanted to thank all who have replied...I went the wire-tap in route, and they worked perfectly. Now starting to hear those crisp high-ranges I've missed for so long...and now I got the bug and want to change some other speakers!

The center speaker is realatively easy, but beyond that it's either alot harder install(doors) or won't be a great noticable upgrade (rear shelf) IMO. I have my ID's for the doors still in the box and while I used to be heavily into car stereo I really dont want to rip up my door and cut to make them fit myself. Hell I used to have an IASCA competeing car, but I just can't bring myself to do things to this car that I used to do. Eventualy Ill pay someone to do my doors so I have some type of warrenty and liability. Replacing the back soundstage doesnt seem like you get any bang for the buck unless you amp the speakers.
