The wife's XWD has Michelin 18" used seven months a year. Each time I remove them for snows, I notice the front tread has tiny bits ripped out. Obviously, turning the wheels at rest on a heavy rig such as this is the most likely cause.

Anyone else noticed this condition?

Didn't have this on ours. After a little more than 50K miles, I replaced the tires with same Michelin model; very happy with them.

New but different Michelin

FWIW, I just replaced the Latitude Tour with Latitude Green X. They are 245/60R18, about the same diameter, but 10mm wider profile, but substantially narrower tread on the ground.

That's obviously how Michelin can call it a lower rolling resistance tire, just put less rubber on the road.

Taking a 1500-mile round trip we've done several times before, so will be able to compare ride, handling and fuel economy.

More as it happens.

The GreenX are softer and quieter than the Latitude. They are also squishier and don't turn in as directly.

Given the difference in cost, I can live with the tradeoffs.
