My 96 2.0i NG900 has developed a 'pffffft' noise when accelerating. It is quite distinct from the engine noise. Constant tone and pitch. Take your foot off the pedal and it disappears but returns as soon as you touch it again. It started when the front exhaust downpipe and O2 sensor were replaced, the O2 sensor being a generic one.

Any ideas? Leaking vac hose? Excess air? Crap O2 sensor?

Don't know...my Viggen makes a loud "screeching" noise, accompanied by a smell of burning rubber when I nail it hard in gears one through three...I'm still trying to diagnose that problem - it is extremely repeatable...

Sounds and smells like clutch, makes sense since it's in lower gears, Viggen has strong torque.
