I just received my 2008 9-3 Sport Wagon, Vector Active, 1.9 TID 16v.

I have a question regarding a "wierd" noise relating to the Parking Heater. The noise is a clear ticking sound. The sound can be heard when the Parking Heater is working, both when the car is running and not. It can only be heard on the outside of the car on the passenger side.

The sound is definitively not the whooosh of the airflow or the heater itself, but sounds more like a bad fan or a pump.

The car gets warm, so the system itself is working.

Does anyone have an idea what I may be hearing, and if it is normal, or if I should have it looked at. (Been to the garage once to have a "drosselklappenfilter" replaced, so not that keen on going back.)

Could it just be the expanding metal sound?

I've heard many hot engines tick when shut off-
Hmm... I would say not. The metal sound is somewhat uneven "static" ticking. This is very rythmical ticking, hence the idea that it may be a fan or a pump, maybe with a broken bearing.
