No start, but clicking starter relais.

Hi,

My '94 9000 aero won't start sometimes. I turn the key and than there is only the clicking sound from beneath the glovebox compartment. It never has had this failiure with a cold engine. It sometimes happens when i restart the engine after a few minutes.
Does anybody out there know how to solve this problem?

First port of call is to confirm the battery is fully charged AND putting out close to its rated power.

That is likely the cause, otherwise either starter solinoid or wiring problems.

Some 9000 had a faulty ignition switch that wouldn't work every time when very hot. Most likely it is your ignition relay. If the battery current draw is signifiacant then it might be the starter though these rarely fail dead they usually groan and complain a few times and then die. Also, a bad starter usually just won't start, it is unusual to have intermittent starter motor issues.

I'd put 50p on it being the battery ;)

Start with the battery.

The you'll need to investigate the igniton switch and the starter solenoid.
