Aside from remove that small hose and blocking it, this is the exact process we took. What was the purpose of blocking that small hose?

Without that u wont be able to pressurize the system enough to see the any leaks
I'm not arguing more questioning but the guy in the video only says that the tube is removed to release pressure from the crank case. Surely that achieved by take the oil cap off?

Ok, im sure the guy didnt mean that only, i can assure u, that without the removal of the tube, and then blocking that tube, u wont be able to test the system properly.
By not removing the tube, then u actually pressurizing the crankcase and not cause proper pressure build up in the intake and the boost circuit.
As well u will not be able to test ur pcv vlave which is part of the boosted circuit and can indeed cause similar to ur symptoms.
Bottom line, this is the only correct way of doing it.
