Hi there new to the Saab scene and need a bit of advice, thinking about buying a 9-3 convertible for my wife, have had a few convertibles in the past Audi’s, Volkswagen and love having the roof down as long as its dry. Had a new Saab convertible on hire in Germany in Feb and was quite impressed are the 1999/2000 models as good.

So currently have 2002 Toyta Rav 4, 28,000 great car goes well and handles well and as its diesel is good on the fuel consumption.

So should I take the plunge, what’s the 2.0 like for fuel, it would be doing mostly town driving though would take it out for fun drives on a weekends.

Do you get much shuttle shake when the roofs down?

What’s the servicing costs like and are they reliable, had the electronic roof control unit go on the Audi and cost £600 for a new unit and that was through a independent specialist.

Any recommendations of what garages to approach, based up in the West Midlands, am going to have a look at a black one to-day what should I look for??

Many thanks to those who reply, do you wave or flash your lights when you see another convertible lol:D .

Hi, Bluesonic71, and welcome to SaabCentral.

You'd best look at the Buyers Guide on this site. Reliablilty is not an issue. Servicing is probably recommended at a Saab Independent Garage, since they are usually run by enthusiasts themselves, and have much sounder experience, and IMHO, you get better personal service. Sites like this and similar are an encyclopedia of knowledge and experience in themselves, especially if you like to do things properly yourself.

Economy? Well, the Swiftmobile currently returns better than 34 mpg on a run, and around 27 in solid town work.

As for waving, it does happen, but it is more than that. A lot of socialising does go on, and other events - like Saab Trek - and no bad thing is it either. There is a great Saab community out there, meetings fun-days out and the like fuelled by this and sister sites www.uksaabs.co.uk and www.saabscene.co.uk - all three have great co-operation between each other.

HTH, and please let us know how you get on.

Please don't. Leave that for the 2 wheelers.

Disagree w/you Rotate.
Certainly wave at other Saab convertibles.
As most of us have DRL's, flashing the lights is out of the question! hehehe
