Surely that is NOT the Aisin-Warner auto-trans; we have over 250K miles on two of them.

Saab never could make a decent one.. Front drive can be very hard in the transmission as there is no long heavy drive shaft to absorb torque and shock.
They could try returning to the old rubber universals - but then they would be shot after 50K miles.. $8 to 20 in parts, 90 minutes labor..
Todays translation is $80 to $200 in parts, 3 plus hours labor !!
