Hey Gang,

I gouged out the side of my backup key shell for my vert.

When I went to press the button, nothing happened, so I thought the battery must have died. So, I was trying to open it. I thought that the way to do it is with a corkscrew poked into the little hole in the side.

Anyways, I gouged out a chunk of the key shell itself. And I stopped right there. Didn't try to get the battery out.

So, I searched on EBAY and found key "shells" for my 01 9-3 SE vert.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replacement-SAAB-9-3-9-5-KEY-SHELL-CASE-NEW-BLADE-for-keyless-entry-remote-/301846169254?fits=Make%3ASaab&hash=item46476f06a6:g:5M0AAOSwKtlWlR5Y&vxp=mtr

Is it as simple as getting one of these, replacing the innards of my key (replace the battery) and then getting the key itself re-cut into the blank?

Or is there some crazy marrying process etc?

Anyone ever do one of these?

thanks everyone.

That will work fine. The electronics just swap over. The trick is finding someone to cut the key for you. A former Saab dealer might be a good choice, or a locksmith who has the right equipment. The corner hardware store does not usually have the machine.
