the past two cars I have owned have gone through 3 fuel pumps in the course of two years... I guess I have bad luck with fuel pumps??

could anyone shed some light on what factors contribute to a fuel pump going?

on my SAAB i replaced the pump at 151,000 miles and again at 158,900 miles - my old jetta was the third fuel pump; replaced around 300,000 miles. but seriously, this is getting quite expensive, my fist SAAB pump ran me over $300 w/labor, and this second time around its cost over $350 - and that was for a used one from a junk yard!

Don't run it on fumes! This will kill a fuel pump quick....at least in my experience.
good advice... thats pretty much what i like to do so i can get the most out of my gas tank (i've gotten 420 miles on 16 gallons before!) but yea, i guess its my fault - i mean what are the odds of frying two fuel pumps in a few months... i should have listend to my mother and fill up when i'm at a quarter tank!
