Hey,

What determines whether threads go to moderators for approval vs being posted directly? Approx. how quickly are the threads approved or disapproved?

Usually gets flagged if there is a link to another site, I don't really know about the full ins and outs though.

As for how long it takes, there's no notification to us - we have to notice it. And sometimes they get well hidden! Sometimes they get sorted quickly, sometimes it can take days.

Usually affects a new users first ten posts, part of the anti-spamming measures used within this version of the forum software. A couple of versions ago we were experiencing a huge amount of spam posting on a daily basis.

This moderation of new users posts, along with other measures, has vaastly reduced the amount of spam we have to deal with. Although it can mean a delay in legitimate posts/threads showing, it more prefferable than having to delete 3 out of 5 posts and ban the user for spamming.

Usually a new members first post, first thread will be put in the queue for approval, then any of the first 10 posts that contain quotes, links, pics or certain key words/phrases that often appear in spam.

Oncwe you get past 10 posts, it's very rare for a post/thread to be automatically added to the moderation queue, though if it is suspect, a moderator may decide to manually add it to get the thoughts of other moderators.

Hope this explains it.

Thanks for your responses!

If it helps at all, I have two messages awaiting moderation in the 9-5 Workshop forum. The second (most recent) one is a re-type of the first, so if you get around to moderating these, you can just delete the more recent one and approve (if it meets requirements) the second one. Both of these center around a local Saab specialist recommending conventional oil for my car, when synthetic seems to be recommended by this forum.

There are no outgoing links in either of them, but I'm still in my first 10 posts, like you said. I was only confused because my first and third threads were posted, but the second and fourth (to be deleted) were sent to the queue.

Cheers and thanks for your time!

I've finally hit 10 posts! Hopefully I can stop bothering you guys now :D

There's one more post I just made in the 9-5 Workshop forum that has entered the moderation queue, in response to the first thread I started ("Few minor issues [...]"). To avoid cluttering your moderation queue with my posts/threads, should I limit my posting rate?

Thanks a bunch!

Prospect Saab 9-5 owner.

I'm having the same issue. I every time I try to submit a post under the 9-5 workshop section I keep getting a message about needing approval. Could you please approve my thread?

Ahh, this helps explain why a thread I tried to start never appeared. I did have a link in there. Shame on me! ;)

Hey Iv been actively engaged in a thread in the 9-5 workshop area and was able to post a thread and a few posts, but today when I try to respond to mike brennen, I got that message saying my message will not be visible until its approved by moderators. Could you please make it visible? Could you please make or allow my future posts to be visable? My thread is titles " New 1999 9-5 wagon owner. Any tips?"
Thanks in advance.

I have a couple posts in the 900/93 forum about a newbie with ABS problems. I can post fine on other threads, but it's been a couple weeks and i'd sure like to get my saab running!

You have 7 posts to your name, and all are showing, there's none awaiting approval.
If you're missing posts, I don't know whats happened to them, but there not here.
