just got a 96 900se - already seems like a very quirky little car but love it - however, went to get gas and can't seem to figure out how to release the gas cap door (without prying it open with a screwdriver, and i don't think that's what you're supposed to do) - doesn't seem to be a button, switch or anything anywhere in the car - help!

Assuming that the '96 is the same as the '95, there is no gas door release. There is a locking mechanism that operates with the door locks. When the doors are unlocked, the gas door unlocks at the same time.

I believe that there is a pull-cable in the trunk, behind the cloth liner inside the fender, that will pull the lock back if there is a malfunction.

In the boot, upper right side, there is a rectangular imprint. You may have to cut this partially open, making an access.. Lift this away, underneath are the fuel door lock mount screws.

There is also a screwdriver in the spare tire compartment which should fit..

...and that's nowhere near the dumbest question...

That's actually pretty enlightening. Now other folks know what to do if this happens to them...:D
