I found this news article with some info about the 9-4x rivals being released soon, lets hope this saab ditches any design cues that infer cheapness.
According to Automotive News, Audi plans to unveil its Q5 SUV at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show on 14 November.
The new model (codename: AU416), which will compete with the BMW X3, will be built at the OEM's main Ingolstadt plant and should share many of its modules with the Volkswagen Tiguan SUV.
The front- and all-wheel drive Q5 is expected to be closely related to Audi's Cross Coupe quattro, which premiered at the Shanghai motor show in April. This concept was 4,380mm long and 1,820mm wide, making it similarly sized to the Audi A3 Sportback. The Cross Coupe quattro was powered by a 204hp/152kW 2.0-litre I4 turbodiesel.
Another rival for the Q5, the Infiniti EX35, will go on sale in the US and Canada in December. A production version of a further competitor, the Volvo XC60 concept from the 2007 Detroit show, is expected at the same event in January 2008, as is what sources claim Mercedes-Benz will badge its 'GLK-Class' (codename: X204). The then DaimlerChrysler confirmed the model was under development in April 2005 and named the place of build as Bremen in Germany. The GLK, XC60 and Audi Q5 are all expected to go on sale in Europe and North America from the third quarter of 2008.
Two further entrants in this rapidly expanding market sector are due to be launched by General Motors. The Cadillac VRX (GMT166) and Saab 9-4x (GMT168) are expected to use a new platform, TE, which uses components from the Theta and Epsilon 2 architectures.
