Im from Wollongong in NSW, 80km south of Sydney in Australia.
From time to time I suspect I will be in need of a wreckers and aftermarket supplier for my Saab.
Are there any there Aussies on this forum who know the where to go already?:D

Look, mate, saying things like "I'm from New Zealand" when I ask for Aussies doesnt help anyone.:)
The rest of the world cant tell us apart, so it is our sworn duties to stand tall and reject each others as foreighners.
You go pick on me for saying Feesh and Cheeeps, and I will pick on you for having "Sex of the finest beers in the worlds, eh, bro"

You will enjoy.......

dealing with the 'SAAB wreckers' cartel in this country, especially Sydney..........

Some parts that I've sought quotes on have been close to 70% of new price value. Once I rang to get a price on petrol tank and got told that $800 was a bargin!
A second hand radiator was just over $200, I went and bought one NEW for $310, in came complete with thermo switch and top mounts.

It's fun....

Bugger.
No inside scoops then on where to get bits?
I used to collect Chryslers and they always had good stuff within the club.
Is that the way to go?

I'm up in Waterfall, which is the last suburb of Sydney heading south towards Wollongong along the Princes Highway.

I think there are lots of Oz Saab enthusiasts here, especially if you take into account people who own the other makes/models of Saab and not just the classic 900's, 99's. etc.

It's not quite a cartel anymore. Steve (originally part-owner of Saab Serve at North Parramatta) has apparently sold his share in Saab Serve and now runs his new business Saab Salvage based at Riverstone full-time. There is a website but I couldn't get it to resolve in the DNS today so the site might only have been set up in the last few days.

The phone and address info does show up in the online White Pages though. Will get out there to check it out very soon. Otherwise Saab Serve itself is very good (Ric is the guy to speak to there), but then you have to drop down a level to the generic Euro wreckers, most of which are painful to deal with.

Craig.

PS. If anyone wants fuel tanks, I have two pulled from two 83 cars. They're listed in the Evil Bay at present...

Hello swinging beef ..welcome.. Les Melbourne here , Initially i used to deal with the specialist wreckers in melbourne . No names ..no pack drill . In both cases there service and knowledge are excellent , but unfortunately they are in a niche market and tend to charge accordingly .

Often the way to go , IF you have the room and the blessing of the other half is the DONOR car route, this is the way I normally go it starts with ONE...lol.... . or Pm some of the aussie guys from here , they may be able to help . EVil bay can also be a good source ,

You can buy these cars complete without rego very cheap ( basically there scrap metal value )

I say Pm because using this forum for ads is frowned upon .

Not sure if you have such a thing as a Pull a part or similar in your area??.

Welcome swinging, a West Aussie here, where the parts situation is even more dire than the east. As Les sez, a parts car is the way to go if you've got the space to strip it.

Well I got lucky so far and dont seem to need anything, but I know the way it works.. the harder the bit is to get, the more likely I am to need it. ;)

c900.. I was wondering if you would chime in, Ive already spied your ads on ebay for grilles, and you arent too far away at all.. mine has broken clips, but stays in quite well, and at this time of the year, I dont want to be spending on bits I dont absolutley need.

15" Mags would be nice later in the year, tho.:cheesy:

I'm in the west also and find the same probs...a certain national car scrapper over here charges through the nose for 2nd hand parts....makes more sense to buy the expensive new parts!

Special Tool, theres a 900 Aero in the Quokka going cheap/maybe parted out at the moe....my sis did find a Saab spec scrappers recently that where quite reasonable, I'll try and find out who they where.

I have bought from SAABWreck mainly (Oakleigh in Melbourne), be prepared to pay more than if you had a twenty-year-old Ford or Holden.

Don't forget SAAB dealers, the occasional part is still available and not necessarily all that expensive (and some that are horrendously expensive).

I have also bought "consumables" like brake pads, rotors, dizzy cap, spark plug wires etc from EAI in Box Hill in Melbourne.

I sent you a msg through the Evil Bay about the car you're selling too - my wife would kill me if I got a replacement donor car for the two I'd just disposed off (and I'm out of work - again - so spending's grinding to a halt real fast!).

There are plenty of good Saab 15" alloys to pick from. Some will show up locally during the year no doubt.

If you are looking for Aussies here just look at thread content - no one writes like they speak quite like you lot as you just proved. Some of the comments from Aus make me cry with laughter, I just read them 'thinking' Aus accent and they all come out like Sir Les Patterson. More please.

Sounds interesting. Yes that certain national car scrapper is a joke -- unhelpful and overpriced. I saw that cheap Aero and have been meaning to have a look. I don't have room (so my wife says:evil: ) to part a car right now but maybe my dear old mum would let me do it at her place. I'd like to have a store of 16v turbo bits.

On the subject of Aeros for sale, did you see the '88 Aero in the Readers Mart for $8500?
