So...I'm setting my budget for my engine rebuild on my '00 9-3SE. I've sourced most of the parts between eEuroparts, Parts for Saab, and Autoparts World. Should be around $1300 for everything I need...including clutch and motor mounts.

I've found a couple of machine shops here in town and I kinda want to get an idea of what I should expect for cost so I don't get "had". For those of you who have done this, what should be a reasonable expectation for the following:

Head checked for warpage/ ground if necessary

Valve seats/Valves ground

Block checked...ie cylinder walls, head mating surface, (or anything else I should have looked at on the block)

Block honed

I would be curious to know a good average of what most folks pay for these things.

Thanks!

I haven't had to have anything machined in a while, but there are online lists of prices. Just google on 'machine shop prices' and you'll get some hits like this one:

http://citymotorsupply.com/machineshop.htm

I suspect that the head work may be more on engines with 4 valves per cylinder. And they might need tolerance infomation from you like piston to block clearance, end gap clearance, etc... Ron
