Well, with the MAF problem basically, a new problem has devoloped. I get a loud whirring sound like what a bad power steering pump would make but it doesn't fluctuate when I turn the steering wheel. It does increase though relative to engine speed and is accompanied by a slight high-pitched whinning sound like that of a bad bearing...maybe the idler pulley? Love this car but the things failing at the 65-75K mile mark is ridiculous!

As you say its could well be a pulley, mine was a water pump, before that it was the ACC compressor, and you really dont want to know how much the PS pump is

Lets hope its the idler pulley ;)

How can I properly diagnose if it's the pulley? I guess release tension on the belt and check for play? I just had the water pump replaced. I was looking at the "How To" on here about replacing the idler pulley, how long does that take? Anyone done the shorter belt conversion and is there any advantage?
