I had a look at a black 97 aero today and have some questions.
First it's an auto so let me here your thoughts on this. The car is in very good shape cosmetically, but the heater fan was not working, it had an oil leak at the cam gasket, and it needs tires,
How much would be a good price? The Aero's seem to be a bit pricey but it the prices are all over the place from what I can tell.

Around here that would be a great price, in my opinion. I just dealt with replacing the blower motor/heater core/fan resistor and, while not fun, is certainly a home mechanic type job. Plenty of info online.

Worn tires are a great opportunity to pick your favorite!

Leaking valve cover is common on any car it seems, and easy to fix.

Never had a saab auto, but check service records, look at fluid and pay attention during a test drive. Standard stuff I guess...

Good luck

Can you point me towards a write up on the blower motor.
I remember one thing, when I turned up the fan speed manually I could here air blowing in the back seats but nothing up front. Are there separate fans?

Well here are my ambitious plans. I can purchase the Aero for $2200 and there is a parts car available that is a manual that I can get for $700. I was planning to at least swap the transmissions but may just swap the entire power train if I decide that would be easier or if a compression check shows that one motor is better than the other.
So for $3k and some change I could end up with a nice manual Aero.

What do you guys think?

here's one

There are other step by step guides to be found, but my mac just gave up the ghost along with all my bookmarks etc. If I can recover it I'll pass it along to you, but I probably won't buy a new computer for at least a week.

just found this
http://townsendimports.com/Web/climate_control_folder/climate_control_docs.html

and this

I found good prices on the heater core kit and blower motor online. Just do some searchin. Enjoy your new ride!

Exactly what I was thinking. Plus it's a lot more fun with the manual.
Do you know how to get the extra 25 hp back that they left out of the auto Aero?
Correct - but you do not need to change the turbo to get the power back!

Tuning the Trionic to Stage 1- computer tune only will take it up over 225. Tuning it to Stage 2 will take it further.

This is without the need to change the turbo. If you do change the turbo it will give you more with the same computer tune.

Check out the thread on "for those not on ecuproject" it is in the performance forum - You will find heaps there.

Have you found the blower motor/heater core guides yet? Look at the top of this page where it says tech.help. Select Classic 9000 and gain lotsa info! Guides are found at links toward the bottom IIRC.

I did some tests and the blower works, I have narrowed it down to the ACC unit and ordered one from Ebay. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

I was wrong - the TD 04 needs a slightly different computer tune.

But I am right about getting those power outputs out of a Garret T25
