Recently had to smash my rear window to gain access to my car. Here's the story...

Locked the car, went to work and came out after my shift to find the remote didn't unlock the car, close range or far, angles etc so i got a new battery for it from the shop and still nothing. Took out the metal key and it wouldn't go in so took some force and it turned and made clicking noises but the door would not unlock. So I smashed the window to get in and the alarm went off but the key fob still didn't work to put off the alarm or unlock the door. Wasn't until I climbed in and started the engine that the fob worked again and now I'm scared to lock the car. Any ideas what went wrong/how to fix it?

The car is a 2006 9-3 aero. Other than that it's never had any electrical issues.
