My driver side door (03 9-3) won't respond to my key fob or the door's lock controller. It doesn't make the same sound as the others doors do when you manually lock and unlock the car. Because of the safety mechanize I cannot lock the driver door. So currently the door stays unlocked and the alarm on.

Anyone know what the problem may be and how to fix it? I have taken the panel off and everything looks like it is together. I'm thinking lock cylinder, but where do you get another one and is there one that won't cost me an arm and a leg (dealer)?

If I remember correctly, There's a DIY in the How to or FAQ

Does the window go up and down on the affected door? If it doesn't then it could be a wiring fault or loose connection at the door jamb.

If it does then it is most likely the door latch mechanism (the central locking solenoid is integral with the latch and can't be replaced separately) but it could also be the DCM (door control module).

I say that because I spent several hours this weekend replacing the off-side rear door latch assembly on mine only to find the new replacement does exactly the same as the old one - whirrs quietly then does nothing. The rest of the mechanism is ok, so next stop is the DCM. Being a 'module' these require the assistance of Tech 2 when they are replaced to marry them to the car. It's booked in tomorrow at my local Saab indy specialist so I will see what he thinks...
