Hello there, I am new to the forum guys, and hope you can help.
I picked up a 2 door 1980 99t today, and on driving it home, noticed several things.

(i) The temp needle seems to be very high on the dial
(ii) Car totally lacks power when accelerated from about 70mph (shuddering?)
(iii) Electrics seem weak i.e Horn, indicators, (no reversing lights)
(iv) Amp orange light is staying on.Alternator problem perhaps?

Bodywork seems ok...I had a mate check it out first, but he didn't get a good run in it.

What sort of trouble have I got myself into?

Standard 99t stuff.

(i) most likely the radiator is tired and clogged up.
(ii) timing could be off or fuel starvation. pickup screen on the pump could be clogged or the fuel filter is partly blocked.
(iii) Check the fuel block and the connections to the alt, grounds, and battery
(iiiv) see (iii) or the brushes could be worn down on the alt.

It is all good trouble. Busted trans, or water coming out the tailpipe are real trouble...

Good luck with it!.

Temp gauge should stay around the N in the middle. A rad will set you back £80 or so. Easy to get from radiator shops! (there is a good one in stoke if you ever come this way!). If you get a new one rather than getting yours recored you will loose the useful drain plug at the bottom of it.

Heating: Suggest you remove the thermostat first, then see if the temperature drops.
Over 70: as mentioned, check timing and fuel supply.
Electrics: Again could be bushes in the alternator. But, the horn on a 99T should sound no louder than a constipated duck:eek:
Amp light: Again could be alternator bushes, though check all fuses and relay boxes. You should have five of them just in front of your fuses.

Turned out to be the altenator belt.... shredded completely!
Going to have car checked out fully...seems "ok" otherwise!
